With Noel Hunt being unfit with a groin strain. the Leeds team was: Paddy Kenny; Zac Thompson, Lee Peltier, Jason Pearce, Adam Drury; Rodolph Austin, Michael Tonge, Luke Murphy, Ross McCormack; Luke Varney, Matt Smith. In the sixty-third minute Leeds made eight changes with only Paddy Kenny, Zac Thompson and Luke Varney playing the full game as Tom Lees replaced Lee Peltier, Danny Pugh came on for Jason Pearce and Stephen Warnock replaced Adam Drury in defence, while the full midfield was changed as Paul Green came on for Rodolph Austin, David Norris came on for Michael Tonge, Michael Brown for Luke Murphy and Aidan White for Ross McCormack, and up front Dominic Poleon came on for Matt Smith. Ferencvaros lined up: Levente Jova; Sandor Hidvegi, Muhamed Besic, Gyorgy Jozsi, Gabor Gyomber; Aleksandar Jovanovic, Vladan Cukic, Aleksandar Alempijevic, Somalia; Daniel Bode, Jack Tuyp. The game was played in Murska Sobota. The kick off was delayed due to trouble between a three hundred strong Ferencvaros supporters and riot police, but the game was played in a much calmer atmosphere. United should have gone ahead after eight minutes when Luke Varney got up well to create a chance for Matt Smith, who lobbed the ball just over the crossbar. Paddy Kenny showed good form to save a shot from Sandor Hidvegi, and was quickly tested again by Brazilian striker, Somalia, in the eleventh minute. As the half came to an end Ross McCormack's curling free-kick forced a diving save out of goalkeeper Levente Jova and United were denied a penalty after Vladan Cukic brought down Rodolph Austin. In the second half Ross McCormack was close once more but sliced wide from ten yards and then, after five minutes, Luke Murphy's volley was fumbled by the keeper, who saved at the second attempt. However, it came as a surprise and against the run of play when Daniel Bode beat Paddy Kenny with a looping shot eight minutes after the restart. David Norris had a chance to equalise late in the game but ballooned the ball into the grandstand. Aidan White had a shot blocked and a foul on Stephen Warnock went unpunished in the penalty area.
